Back when I was still a teenager punk filled with blissful ignorance..... I was famous for my "Golden Left Foot". Over the years, the devastating power of my left foot has caused unimaginable damage to my opponent's morale and sanity. lol. My footy skills dominated the pickup scene at public parks around downtown Hong Kong back in the day.
Kinda like those Nike and Adidas Ads, -makeshift teams, first goal wins, winner stays on-. Street Ballers must not let their opponents score a single goal, or else they would have to wait in line to play again... The hostile environment resulted from the lack of free public space meant things can get messy. Consider 30 people and playing teams of 7s; if you lose, you have to wait for 3 goals to eliminate 3 teams before you get to play again. Worst yet, before you turn is up, you find out the pitch is booked off in ten minutes...Ultimately, its all about 'respecting the best'. you play to stay on. be the king of pitch !
Although without any formal guidance,my skills developed progressively after spending my early-mid teen afterschools and weekends conquering the concrete courts with my crew. I could score at will up against most, my left foot was good enough to help my team win. This is also why I like to refer to myself as "Prince of Victoria" when I am being arrogant. hahah. However those who acknowledge my dependence on the left ( my crew and my brother and most professional trained players), could stop me with the right tactics. but perhaps never challenged beyond a certain level, my overall game did not develop beyond a "better than most, but suck as a pro" level.
The last few days of kicking the ball around again made me realized the big discrepancy in ball control between my left and my right foot.... So I have set my goal to train my right foot to be as good as my left. From now on when I play, I will only touch the ball with my right and practice using my left as the support foot. I want to be capable of fooling others into believing my right foot is my confident foot, my dependence foot. When I can achieve that, I can play with my right as my dominate foot and only use my left foot as a secret weapon when I am up against a strong opponent.
Hahahah. Maybe then I will be more than just a good amateur player!
Actually i am still a footy player...
